RECLAIM

Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood has gone through radical changes in the last few years, from warehouses, small offices, and affordable housing, to corporate headquarters, medical research labs, and expensive urban condominiums. Drop City Gallery invited John Fleming and W. Scott Trimble to interpret this change. The installation uses discarded pallets and construction lumber retrieved from neighborhood construction site dumpsters. Seven columns loosely representing the blocks and buildings of the neighborhood rise up from the sloping landscape. Each column cages a wild twisting cedar form. At the end of the installation, the cages were disassembled and the inner forms unleashed.
